Technical Rightness vis-a-vis Practical Rightness
Technical Right vis-a-vis Practical Right
In many situations, we are subjected to something called as Technical Correctness , which means as per data or artifacts available.
Also we experience Practical Correctness, which means as per the situation including some abstract unknown data.
This is very relevant, in Organisation since it can trigger Conflicts or be obstacle in Conflict Resolution.
It can break relationships in personal environment.
Let me share a story to help understand this aspect.
One day a Teacher was planning to teach Addition of numbers to age 10 children in a school.
She felt it would be good , if she teaches using practical and child friendly way.
So she called one student, and handed him 2 mangoes in left hand and 2 mangoes in right hand.
She asked the student, how many mangoes does he have.
While giving mangoes, she was counting numbers 1 ,2 ,3 and 4 so he could grasp.
The student immediately said 5 mangoes.
Teacher felt he has not understood the concept so she repeated the above and asked again, and he responded again 5 mangoes.
Good teacher never gives up. She felt let me give try again.
She handed him 2 strawberry in left hand and 2 strawberry in right hand, an asked how many strawberry he had.
Pat came the reply, 4. Wow teacher , was excited. She felt student has understood.
So she repeated again the activity, now again with mangoes.
She was excited, he has got it right and will reply 4....sadly his response was 5.
Now teacher was sad, so she asked student how was it when he had strawberry he said 4 and when with mangoes he said 5.
Guess, what student said.
Teacher, you gave me 4 mangoes and I had 1 mango in my bag. So I had 5 mangoes.
Aha aha....
Now the student was " Practical Right/Correct" .
Teacher was " Technical Right/Correct".
When subjected with such situations , which can break or trigger conflict or become roadblock for conflict resolution, we need to look for that " Missing mango"
We should be conscious of Technical Right vis-a-vis Practical Right.
